Argentinian comic triumphs at the Clapham Grand

Victoria Olsina  has been named LGBTQ+ comedian of the year by London’s Comedy Bloomers club.

The Argentinian-born stand-up triumphed at the final at the Clapham Grand tonight, having been picked by a panel of celebrity judges

She said: ‘I can proudly say I'm the funniest gay in the UK. I'm so happy to have performed along with such talented comedians, in such an iconic venue and for the opportunity to get feedback from comedy legends such as Zoe Lyons, Stephen Bailey, Sikisa and Vinegar Strokes.

‘It has been an unforgettable night and a dream come true. As an immigrant, I came to this country to steal your jobs, your women, and your comedy and so far I'm doing this.’

Olsina – who runs East London’s queer women, trans and nonbinary-led comedy night Clandestina - win a prize package that includes a stand-up special to be recorded by Next Up Comedy.

The streaming platform is also planning a documentary about the competition.

Runners-up – as chosen by an audience vote – were Dick Denham and Lachlan Werner.

Event organiser Chris Smith said: ‘We achieved our goal - to bring LGBTQ closer to the mainstream with an awards show that showcased the best of our communities in a loving and supportive environment.’
