GB News pilots a comedy panel show
TV channel GB News is piloting its own comedy show based on the political divide.
The Ministry Of Offence will feature many of the comedians who also appear on the broadcaster’s Headliners strand, in which stand-ups talk about the next day’s newspapers.
It will be hosted by The Mash Report’s Steve N Allen with the pilot featuring team captains Diane Spencer and Leo Kearse.
The producers say: ‘With the left and right forever going on the offensive, it's time to restore some order. At the Ministry of Offence, we invite two teams - one left-leaning, the other right-leaning - to battle it out through the medium of comedy.
‘This good-natured, quick-witted weekly quiz is hosted by the calm and level-headed Steve N Allen. Our team captains are lefty Diane Spencer and righty Leo Kearse, who will each be joined by a new comedian comrade-in-arms every week.’
GB News – now home to Nigel Farage, Dan Wooton and Eamonn Holmes – was set up last year to challenge what its founders saw as a liberal consensus across the media, prompting commentators to liken it to Trump cheerleaders Fox News – although Britain’s broadcasting rules demand it be impartial.
The pilot will recorded in front of a studio audience next Thursday. Free tickets are available here.
Other comics working regularly on GB News include Andrew Doyle, who hosts a show called Free Speech Nation – and Headliners hosts Mark Dolan, Simon Evans and Dominic Frisby.
