Walliams and Lucas bring back Rock Profile

...and Kylie Minogue appears in Ghosts, all for Comic Relief

Before Little Britain came Rock Profile – and now  David Walliams and Matt Lucas are reuniting to revive the cult sketches that first made their name.

The duo will be parodying the likes of Adele, Post Malone, Lady Gaga, and Lewis Capaldi in the new skits, which will air as part of BBC One’s Red Nose Day telethon.

Vernon Kay will be playing the interviewer role originally taken by Jamie Theakston.

Rock Profile first appeared on the channel UK Play in 1999, before moving to BBC Two the following year, with the pair mocking the likes of Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty (pictured). A third series was made for the Funny Or Die website in 2009, bringing the total number of episodes up to 30.

Its revival is one of a number of elements of the Red Nose Day telethon announced today including:

  • Kylie Minogue joining forces with the cast of Ghosts for a one-off sketch
  • Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders going into The Repair Shop in the guise of their fame-hungry alter-egos The Extras.
  • The return of Comic Opera, in which six celebrities have 24 hours to learn how to be opera singers before performing live at The London Coliseum in front of 2,000 paying audience members.
  • Stephen Fry and other celebrities reading a one-off Bedtime Story, strictly for adults
  • A special edition of QI themed around Comic Relief with Sandi Toksvig and  Alan Davies joined by Jo Brand, Sally Phillips and Guz Khan.
  • Mischief Theatre introducing TV viewers  to The Mind Mangler from their West End showMagic Goes Wrong.

And in the run-up to Red Nose Day, CBeebies Bedtime Stories will be bringing viewers a week of new funny stories culminating with Sue Perkins reading The Pirate Mums.

As previously announced, Jack Whitehall will take part in a mini-golf challenge with England footballers Mason Mount and Declan Rice; and  Joel Dommett and AJ Odudu will host a ‘Prizeathon’.

Red Nose Day is on Friday March 18, and the BBC telethon will kick off at 7pm,  hosted from MediaCityUK in Salford by Alesha Dixon, David Tennant, Zoe Ball, Paddy McGuinness and Sir Lenny Henry.
