As Channel 4 sets broadcast date

Voting has reopened for the new National Comedy Awards.

As Chortle reported earlier this month,  the ceremony is finally going ahead  on March 2 at the Roundhouse in Camden, North London.

And they will be broadcast as a two-hour on Channel 4 at 9pm on Saturday March 5, we can reveal, in support of the channel’s Stand Up To Cancer fundraising efforts.

Winners and shortlists are all decided by public vote, and the polls have reopened now here.

Widely seen as a successor to the now-defunct British Comedy Awards, it had twice been delayed because of Covid.  televised red-carpet event  was originally earmarked for March 2021, then moved to December 15. But that was pulled with just a few days’ notice as the Omicron variant surged.

When the awards were first announced, the broadcaster’s head of entertainment, Phil Harris, said: ‘This is an award show for our times. Fans will be able to vote on the people, some established and others less so, who really make them laugh. We will be celebrating some incredible comedy talent while supporting the incredible Stand Up To Cancer. It promises to be a very special night of TV.’
