Writers' Guild award for Mae Martin
Mae Martin and her Feel Good co-writer Joe Hampson have won the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award for best TV situation comedy.
They were presented with their gong for the Netflix relationship comedy – in which Martin stars alongside Charlotte Ritchie –at a ceremony in London today by Helen Lederer.
The Ab Fab star also presented Hannah George, Taylor Glenn and Catie Wilkins – all above – with the best online comedy accolade for their sketch, Remember Getting the Period Talk at School #Menopause, starring Jenny Eclair.
Meanwhile, best radio comedy award went to Olga Koch and Charlie Dinkin, below. for Radio 4’s Olga Koch: Fight
Simon Blackwell and Armando Iannucci won best screenplay for The Personal History of David Copperfield, which starred Dev Patel,
Other winners included Russell T Davies for Channel 4 drama It’s A Sin, Emerald Fennell for Promising Young Woman and Jack Thorne, who took the outstanding contribution award for a career that has included Shameless, National Treasure and the This Is England series.
He said: ‘I think all writers would say that being given something from other writers is the greatest honour.
‘I'm very proud to be a member of the Writers’ Guild, and I’m delighted that they have decided to give me this. I don't think I've really contributed anything much in this strange career, and writing is a really strange job, but I'm grateful, and slightly anxious, to now have this award to live up to."
Writers Guild president Sandi Toksvig added: ‘We couldn’t hold the awards last year, so it has been even more special to be able to celebrate these wonderful people tonight. They have kept us entertained and allowed us to escape into the marvellous stories and worlds they have created for us, which we have needed more than ever after another challenging year.’
