Comedians up for 2022 BBC Audio Drama Awards
Bridget Christie, Olga Koch and John-Luke Roberts are among the finalists in this year’s BBC Audio Drama Awards.
In the running for the best longform scripted comedy programme are Christie’s Mortal and Koch’s OK Computer, and God Squad, a sitcom by Jack Chisnall and Barney Fishwick about four Christian students at university.
Meanwhile, Roberts’ parody of the podcast landscape, Sound Heap is in the running for best sketch comedy. It was made by improvising podcast episodes, which were then cut into sketch form and featured a raft of comedy talent including Cariad Lloyd, Charlie George, Deborah Frances-White, Gareth Gwynn, Katherine Parkinson, Katy Brand, Ken Cheng, Kieran Hodgson, Paddy Gervers, Ruth Bratt, Saima Ferdows, Sooz Kempner, Amy Gledhill & Chris Cantrill, Tom Allen, Tom Neenan and Toussaint Douglass.
It’s up against Radio 4's East Asian sketch show Drop the Dead Panda – which starred Evelyn Mok, Ken Cheng, Amille Jampa-Ngoen, Vivian Xie, Joanne Lao and Bruce Tang – and Gemma Arrowsmith’s Emergency Broadcast.
Winners will be revealed on Friday March 25 in a ceremony at the BBC Radio Theatre in London’s Broadcasting House.
Among other categories, Paul Chahidi – best known as This Country’s vicar Francis Seaton – is up for best supporting performance for playing lyricist Lorenz Hart in Radio 3’s Rodgers and Hart and Hammerstein. A full list of finalists is available here.
