Book deal for Joanne McNally
Comic's essay collection to be published... but not until 2023
Joanne McNally is writing a series of essays… but they won’t be published for two more years.
Publishers Penguin have snapped up the rights to the Irish comedian’s as-yet untitled anthology, which promises to explore topics such as sex, dating, heartbreak, friendship, body image and ageing.
The news - broken by trade website The Bookseller – comes as McNally stars a new tour of her stand-up show The Prosecco Express – including 30 nights at Dublin’s Vicar Street and three at the London Palladium.
McNally said: ‘I've always wanted to write a book… I started out in life wanting to be a journalist but was told I'd need to be prepared to sell my granny for a story and considering all my grannies were deceased, I didn't feel I had the resources to pursue that dream, so to get an opportunity to write without having to traffic elderly people is very exciting.’
Publisher Martina O’Sullivan said she was introduced to McNally via her podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me, which she co-hosts with Vogue Williams and which claims two million downloads a month.
‘Joanne is undoubtably a comic genius but, more importantly, she’s a gifted writer with a distinctive perspective and a knack for shrewd observation,’ O’Sullivan told The Bookseller.
Her book will be out in autumn 2023.
