So You Think You're Funny? 2021 finalists announced
'It's been an inspiration to see this new comedy talent'
The finalists have been announced for this year’s So You Think You’re Funny? competition, the UK’s longest running comedy talent hunt.
They are: Farhan Ahmed, Omar Badawy, Rae Brogan, Lottie Field, Kathleen Hughes, Nate Kitch, Caroline Maddison, Kathy Maniura, Phil Marzouk and Andy Watts
The final, hosted by Mark Watson, will take place in the Gilded Balloon’s Teviot building in Edinburgh on Thursday.
And the venue says that because of ‘the difficult year that it has been financially for all performers – especially those just starting out in the business’ they will be paying for the finalists’ accommodation in the city and contributing towards their travel.
In a statement, the Gilded Balloon’s artistic directors Karen and Katy Koren said: ‘We’ve decided to put ten people through to the Grand Final this year rather than the usual nine finalists in recognition of an exceptional year and the exceptional talent coming through, despite the challenges experienced by all performers over the past few months.
‘Along with finally seeing live audiences back at the venues, it’s also been an inspiration to see the new comedy talent who are still striving to be part of our wonderful industry despite the challenges they have faced.
The sold-out will also be streamed live from the venue via Next Up Comedy with tickets, priced £12, available here.
So You Think You’re Funny? began in 1988, and previous finalists include Peter Kay, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Russell Howard, Sarah Millican, Kevin Bridges, Romesh Ranganathan, Jack Whitehall and Aisling Bea.
