ITV format seeks people's anecdotes

Jimmy Carr is to host a pilot TV show asking members of the public to share their best true-life stories.

Reportedly entitled Value For Funny and being trialled for ITV, the show will ask contestants to impress a panel of comedians and other celebrities with their anecdotes.

When a casting call went out for the show last month - retweeted by Carr - some immediately pointed out apparent similarities with the big red chair section of Graham Norton’s chat show.

The advert seeking contestants asked: ‘Is there a funny story you always pull out at a dinner party that has your pals in fits of laughter? Are you famous among your work colleagues for your hilarious anecdotes?’

Suggested stories included funny school tales,  holiday mishaps or dating disasters.

Value For Funny is being made by Ant & Dec’s production company Mitre Studios with Saturday Night Takeaway makers Lifted.
