Third series for Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard's Sky comedy

Sky’s parenting comedy Breeders has been renewed for a third series, the broadcaster announced tonight.

The news comes as the second series, starring Daisy Haggard  and co-creator Martin Freeman, launches on Sky One tonight.

Series two jumps forward in time so the young children of the first run are now aged ten and 13.

Simon Blackwell, who co-writes the series with former stand-up Chris Addison, teased the possible third series last month, saying: ‘If there were a Season 3, we would want to make it as distinctive and as ambitious as the first two, so there would be some different stuff going on.’

Now he added: 'Delighted that we’ve got three seasons. One more and it's a pizza. This is such a superb team to work with, and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to make the show. I can’t wait to see what terrible and brilliant but let’s face it mainly terrible things will happen to the Worsley family in the next ten episodes.’

Addison added: ‘Apart from the sheer joy of working with this incredible team, very little gives us more pleasure than putting Paul and Ally through the wringer, so we’re thrilled that Sky have decided to give us this shiny new third wringer to put them through. I’m intrigued to see what shape they come out the other side.’

The show, which also stars Joanna Bacon, Alun Armstrong and Stella Gonet, is made by Avalon and also airs on the FX network in America.

Jon Mountague, Sky’s director of comedy, added: ‘Martin and Daisy are rapidly becoming the UK’s most relatable and funniest parents and they’ve certainly left our audience wanting more. So, it’s with great joy to be able to spread the news of a third series before the birth of the second.’

All ten episodes of the second series will be available on demand after the first airs on Sky and Now TV at 10pm tonight.
