Plus nods for Mae Martin, Sophie Willan and the late Paul Ritter

This Country has scored six nominations in this year’s Bafta awards, with six for Netflix comedy Bad  Education.

Other comedy nominees include Mae Martin, Guz Khan, Romesh Ranganathan, Sophie Willan and the late Paul Ritter for Friday Night Dinner.

Inside No 9 has been nominated for best comedy, but judges divided its stars and creators – nominating Reece Shearsmith for best comedy performance but not Steve Pemberton.

Charlie and Daisy May Cooper are both up for comedy acting awards for This Country, as well as for best comedy writing. The show is also up for best scripted comedy.

Meanwhile, Sex Education stars Aimee Lou Wood, Ncuti Gatwa and Emma Mackey are up for acting awards with the show also scooping nominations for costume design, production design and casting in the craft awards for off-screen talent.

Overall, the shortlists are dominated by Steve McQueen’s anthology series of West Indian stories, Small Axe, with 15 nominations, followed by The Crown with ten.

Winners of the tVirgin Media British Academy Television Awards will be announced  on June 6 on BBC One, with the craft awards winners - including comedy writer – revealed on social media on Monday May 24.
