New title for Lucy Beaumont's 'mumoir'
Lucy Beaumont’s ‘mumoir’ has been given a new title, as publishers reveal that it will also include ‘interruptions’ from her husband Jon Richardson.
Chortle first reported that she was to publish her parenting book in January when it had the title Mummy ... Can I Stand On Your Head?: Diary Of A First Time Mum.
Now it has been retitled Drinking Custard: The Diary of a Confused Mum ahead of its publication on September 30 by Monoray.
Describing the book as ‘ heart-warming and laugh-out-loud funny’, the publishers say: ‘Known for her sharp, witty and surreal view on everyday life, Lucy shares the unpredictable craziness of being a mum in this brilliant and laugh-out-loud "mumoir".
‘Mums everywhere will recognise the madness of it all. Like when Lucy was hospitalised with indigestion in her third trimester (blame the burrito), or when she was *this close* to slapping her hypo-birthing instructor. Or the efforts she made to infiltrate the local mums social groups and when she embarrassingly forgot her own new-born baby's name!’
Beaumont co-writes Meet The Richardsons, the Dave mockumentary about her married life, above, and has had her own Radio 4 series To Hull and Back. Her daughter, Elsie Louise, will be four in September
Speaking of her book deal, she told trade website The Bookseller: ‘Finally a book about mothering! I'm not bragging but my best friend read this book and she laughed so much her neighbour Harold knocked on the wall to check if she was all right.’
Monoray likens Drinking Custard to bestsellers such as Gill Simms’ Why Mummy Drinks and Katy Kirby’s Hurrah For Gin! - comes out in September.
Beaumont’ is not the only comedian contributing to the increasingly popular 'mumoir' genre this year, as Ellie Taylor’s My Child And Other Mistakes is due out in July. (Order)
