Funny Women goes global
This year’s Funny Women Awards is going global, with entries open to international comedians.
The competition is planning heats in Melbourne, Los Angeles, Boston, Singapore, Milan, Amsterdam and Dublin as well as across the UK, before the final at Bloomsbury Theatre in London on September 23.
Organiser Lynne Parker has also added new a category, for the best comedy content creator, which will be nominated by the public.
This is in addition to awards for short films and comedy writing, as well as the stage award for performers.
Parker said: ‘Over the last year we have really embraced the online space and increased our accessibility, and I am super-excited about the 2021 Funny Women Awards. [I’m] looking forward to seeing even more brilliant new female performers, writers and creators from all over the world.’
Past winners and finalists include Katherine Ryan, Roisin Conaty, Sarah Millican, Sara Pascoe and London Hughes.
Entries open tomorrow on the Funny Women website, but no prizes have yet been announced.
