Motherland is set to be remade for an American audience.

Trade magazine Broadcast reports that plans are in the early stages of development, with Grace and Frankie writer Julieanne Smolinski attached to work on new scripts.

Writers Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh are executive producers on the US version, alongside Clelia Mountford,  Horgan’s partner in their production company Merman. They are working with Bridesmaids director Paul Feig and US production house Lionsgate on the remake.

Motherland, also written by Helen Linehan and Barunka O’Shaughnessy, has run for two seasons on BBC Two and stars  Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan, Lucy Punch, Paul Ready, Philippa Dunne and Tanya Moodie as a group of mismatched London parents.

Feig is also adapting BBC Three’s This Country for the US, with a 14-episode series heading for Fox.
