It's Rich-ie Gervais

Comedians' firms sitting on £9million in cash

Ricky Gervais is sitting on a cash pile of at least £9million, newly filed accounts reveal.

His firm Red Lion 100 has £8million in the bank, according to paperwork just filed with Companies House.

And that’s after paying a £505,000 dividend to Gervais, its sole director, for he financial year 2019/2020.

Another of his companies, LOTR Films, also just filed accounts up to March last year, showing just over £1million in the bank. That firm did not pay him a dividend.

Gervais is a director of a total of 11 companies involved in producing his work, many of which are inactive.

Last week on The Office Deep Dive podcast, the comic revealed that after the US version of The Office went into syndication he received a snarky tweet saying: ‘The American version of The Office is so much bigger and better than yours. How does that make you feel?’ And he responded: ‘Fucking rich.’

The 59-year-old has previously said of his wealth: ‘I know it sounds a lot, but remember, I donate a lot of this to good causes (the Inland Revenue mainly).’
