BBC orders 20 Laugh Lessons comedy shorts
The BBC is to air a series of 20 sketches from up-and-coming comics from across the UK.
Writers and performers set to take part in the Laugh Lessons series include Jack Carroll, Sian Docksey, Raul Kohli and the Northern Power Blouse trio, pictured.
BBC Three commissioned the skits, all three- to five- minutes long, after asking production companies from across the country were invited to pitch ideas.
The successful production companies are:
Manchester’s Channel X North and Glasgow’s Hopscotch who will make sketches with Impaired, a disability-themed project from Jack Carroll and Pete Selwood; Laura Marcus; Teej Works aka Tendayi Jembere; Beth Rylance and Northern Power Blouse, which comprises Cassie Atkinson, Kat Butterfield and Jack Robertson
Wales-based Little Wander will be working with Shikira Porter, Alex Cubb and Remi Yenn, Sian Docksey, Jamie d’Souza and Hannah Platt.
The North East Comedy Hot House contributors will include contributions from Raul Kohli, Amber Doig-Thorne, Joby Mageean, William Wyn Davis and Francesca Tomlinson.
While London-based Peggy Pictures will be introducing a host of new sketch ideas from Fats Timbo, Akafi Ali, Ehiz, Manrika Khaira and Steph Mcateer.
Sarah Asante, the BBC’s comedy commissioning editor, said: ‘To kick off 2021, we asked Indies to help us to uncover new comedy voices from around the UK and they’ve introduced us to a crop of diverse young comedians that we’re excited to nurture and highlight.
‘BBC Three has always supported and showcased the best of new British comedy talent, we believe that these fresh faces will keep that legacy going to great effect this year.’
