London Hughes, Hollywood star

Comic working on semi-autobiographical film Hot Mess

London Hughes is set to star in her first Hollywood comedy film, loosely based on her own life.

Hot Mess is being produced by Will Packer and James Lopez, the duo behind 2017 hit Girls Trip.

It will be scripted by new writer Noushin Jahanian, who came up with the idea with  Hughes, and is in development at Universal.

Hughes said in a statement: ‘Will Packer and James Lopez are my LA Fairy God-Dudes! James was one of the first executives I met when I go to the States and he immediately believed in me.

‘I'm beyond excited for the world to see what we've been up to."

It is the latest major career development for the31-year-old  stand-up since she moved to Los Angeles, frustrated by what she considered the lack of opportunities for black comedians in the UK.

Hughes’s Netflix special, To Catch A D*ck, will be released worldwide next Tuesday. The show, which earned her a nomination in last year’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards, is executive produced by Kevin Hart. She is also a co-host on the new format The Netflix Afterparty alongside David Spade and Fortune Feimster.

In the UK she appeared on CBBC and a raft of reality formats.
