Veep cast reunites... for democracy!
The cast of Veep are to stage a live reading of one of the episodes tonight, to raise money for a democracy campaigners.
Stars led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be joined by a raft of guests including Stephen Colbert, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Mark Hamill and Bryan Cranston.
They will be performing the uncut script from Mother episode from 2016’s fifth series, in which Selina Meyer had to put her campaign on hold when her mother suffers a stroke. And, significantly, the storyline includes politicians both demanding, and trying to cancel, a recount in a presidential election.
In one of several tweets promoting the event, Louis-Dreyfus said: ‘In one 2020 won't stop ripping off #VEEP, so we had to do something about it. Our cast is hosting a LIVE virtual table read of the episode everyone was talking about in support of @AmericaVotes' grassroots work to turn out voters for the Georgia Runoffs.’
The message features the actress with hair dye running down her face, in sly reference to Trump lawyer Rudy Guliani’s sweaty TV appearance making wild allegations of voter fraud that have never yet stood up in court.

The Veep reading, from 1am UK time, will be in aid of America Votes, a non-partisan coalition of grassroots organisations focuses on ensuring voting rights for all. Its current focus is on getting citizens of George out to vote in the crucial senate race which will determine the path of Joe Biden’s presidency.
