London Hughes up for South Bank award
London Hughes has been shortlisted for the breakthrough award in this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
Her nomination follows the announcement of her first Netflix special, and the news that she is to join the streaming service’s new 18-part show The Netflix Afterparty, alongside David Spade.
For the accolade, sponsored by The Times newspaper, one nominee from each of the artforms recognised by the awards is put forward, with Hughes representing comedy.
The shortlist for the comedy award itself comprises Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag, Netflix’s Sex Education, and Rufus Jones’s Home.
Winners will be announced next month, with the ceremony broadcast on Sky Arts at 8pm on Sunday December 20.
Host Melvyn Bragg said: ‘This year's awards will inevitably be a very different sort of event for very different circumstances, but nonetheless will be an inspiring and uplifting celebration of the remarkable talent and strength of many artists at the peak of their powers.
‘The diverse and eclectic list of nominees in every category proves that there is much to enjoy in the arts - even in the toughest of times.’
