BBC drops Mister Winner

No second series for Spencer Jones sitcom

Spencer Jones’s BBC Two sitcom Mister Winner has been axed, the comedian has revealed.

Six episodes of the show, in which he played an optimistic loser, aired earlier this year following a 2017 pilot.

However, it received only a lukewarm critical reaction, with a slew of two- and three-star reviews – including Chortle’s – and the BBC has decided not to recommission it.

‘I  know it's not important in the grand scheme of things but I wanted to let you know that Mr Winner is not going to have a second series,’ Jones tweeted,

I 'had a lovely time making and want to thank Matt Morgan for writing it for me and the BBC for having me in it. Thanks for watching x’

Lucy Pearman co-starred as his girlfriend, alongside Shaun Williamson, Leon Annor and Oliver Maltman.
