New talk show for Deirdre O'Kane
Comedian Deirdre O'Kane is to host a new Saturday-night chat show in Ireland.
The six-part series, Deirdre O'Kane Talks Funny, starts next month in the RTE One slot currently occupied by Ray D’Arcy.
Her show will feature guests looking back over their careers, with the aid of throwback clips.
Moone Boy star O’Kane – who previously appeared on Dancing With The Stars – said: ‘It's been a long-held dream of mine to do a show like this where I get to sit down and have a proper chat with fellow performers, creatives and comrades in entertainment.
‘The aim is definitely to have a bit of craic with it, but I think we'll also get genuine insight into how our guests were inspired to do what they do and how they forged their paths.
‘I'm really fired up at the prospect, I have to say; I'm biased of course but I do think it'll make for a great watch!’
John McHugh, the broadcaster’s head of entertainment, added: ‘We are delighted that Ireland's comedy queen is joining our new weekend line-up’.
O’Kane follows in the footsteps of fellow comedian Tommy Tiernan, who has presented three series of his RTE chat show in which the guests are kept secret, even from him, until they walk out on stage. A book of his best interviews from the Tommy Tiernan Show, Winging It, will be released later this month.
