John Oliver's show scoops three more Emmys
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver scooped three Emmy awards last night.
The HBO show - which has just been renewed for three more years – scooped accolades for outstanding writing for a variety series, for picture editing and for technical direction.
Oliver accepted the writing award via video – as the whole event was virtual – using one of his son’s ‘creepy’ toys in place of the actual Emmy.
He said: ‘I’d like to thank my writers, obviously, who work incredibly hard all year and this year has been very challenging.
‘I’d like to thank the Emmys for not holding the Emmys in person this year because of the, you know, "the thing". Thank you, we will cherish it forever.’
Saturday Night Live also walked away with three gongs: for best variety sketch series, best directing on a variety show and for production design.
James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke was named outstanding short form variety series
All the awards are Creative Arts Emmys, primarily for offscreen talent.
