Comedy on the beach
Brighton Beach is to host a raft of comedy shows this summer, with the opening of a new outdoor venue,
The Warren, the hub for the annual Brighton Fringe every spring, is constructing a purpose-built site on next to the peer for a season of events running from August 5 to September 27.
Krater Komedy, usually the weekend club at Brighton’s Komedia venue, will be staging a series of club gigs featuring the likes of Rachel Parris (pictured), Marcus Brigstocke, Milton Jones and Paul Sinha.
Other shows include Shitfaced Shakespeare, new act showcase Comic Boom, and returning Fringe shows such as Privates: A Sperm Odyssey and The Cheeky Chappie, a play about Brighton music hall legend Max Miller.
Tickets are sold by the table, for up to six people in the same household or ‘bubble’.
Artistic director Nicola Haydn said: "There’s no getting round it, these past few months of lockdown have been catastrophic for the arts.
‘But creative people thrive on challenge and ever since March, when we had to cancel The Warren, we’ve been thinking about ways to return safely and effectively.
‘We’re so excited to have found a new way to bring live performance back to the city. The Warren Outdoor Season is going to be a different experience to previous events, but with the same fantastic atmosphere and high production values. It’s been a long time coming but I think we’re all ready to have some (socially-distanced) fun again.’
