Why There is No Hope show coming live from London

John Cleese is to perform his first live streaming gig.

The Monty Python and Fawlty Towers legend will be performing his live stand-up show Why There is No Hope at the Cadogan Hall in London on Sunday August 2, with the gig broadcast over the internet.

But tickets aren’t cheap, at £21.99, giving access to the live stream plus access for two days following the performance.

Speaking about the show, Cleese said: ‘I have recently been gathering my thoughts on the future of our planet and have reached the conclusion that the situation is completely hopeless, that there is nothing that can be done about it, but that it really doesn’t matter.

‘I shall also be singing a short selection of Peruvian burial ditties. All this in my first ever live stream. Do join me, or a squad of North Korean hackers will make your life a living hell.’

Speaking to journalists to launch the show, he also railed against so-called cancel culture, saying it 'misunderstands the main purposes of life, which is to have fun.'

'Everything humorous is critical. If you have someone who is perfectly kind and intelligent and flexible and who always behaves appropriately, they’re not funny. Funniness is about people who don’t do that, like Trump,' he told Reuters.

The gig comes a few weeks before his new book Creativity, A Short Cheerful Guide is published by Penguin Random House. (Order)

Tickets are available here.
