Radio 4 announces a 'festival' of comedy showcases

Six half-hour shows start next week

Radio 4 is air a 'summer comedy festival', with a series of weekly  showcases starting next Friday.

And the half-hour shows will go beyond traditional comics, with spoken word artists, poets and authors. 

Miles Jupp will host the first, which will feature stand-ups Simon Munnery, and Paul Sinha, plus  crime writer Val McDermid.

Jo Brand hosts on July 31, with poets John Hegley and Nafeesa Hamid, spoken word artist Hollie McNish, and comedian Lewis MacLeod.

The other comedy curators are Darren Harriott, Sara Pascoe, Daliso Chaponda and Jayde Adams, with line-ups yet to be announced
 
Sioned Wiliam, Radio 4's commissioning editor for  comedy, said: 'Our six hosts each have their own brilliant styles but they share comedic excellence which I know listeners will hear in their curations too. 

'Radio 4’s Summer Comedy Festival hopes to give listeners a little bit of the magic they may be missing whilst most live events aren’t taking place.'

The shows air at 6.30pm on Fridays.
