Mix-up over rights blamed

Netflix has had to remove the second series of Derry Girls from its platform in an apparent  mix-up over rights.

The streaming service added the Irish sitcom just four days ago, tweeting: ‘Derry Girls S2 is now on Netflix if you were looking for an excuse to watch it again.’

However, today it admitted it had jumped the gun, and instead directed its subscribers to the free catch-up service of original broadcaster Channel 4.

The streamer admitted: 'It looks like we were a bit early with this one so have had to take season two down for now. We'll let you know when it's coming back as soon as we can. In the meantime, it's available now on All 4’

Trade media reports that Netflix does not have the rights to season 2 until season 3 has broadcast on Channel 4. The new episodes were due to go into production this summer, but that has been put on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic
