Richard Herring; Ed Gamble and James Acaster; Chris and Rosie Ramsey; the Kurupt FM crew; Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine; and Elis James and John Robins are among the comedians shortlisted in the year’s British Podcast Awards.
Gamble and Acaster’s Off Menu programme, in which they ask guests to devise their perfect meal, has been nominated in two categories: for best entertainment and best comedy podcast
The comedy shortlist comprises:
- Brian & Roger, created by Harry Peacock and Dan Skinner, about friends who met at a support meeting for divorced men.
- Dear Joan and Jericha, the spoof counselling podcast with Julia Davis and Vicki Pepperdine
- Josh Berry's Fake News from Union Jack radio
- Kurupt FM, from the People Just Do Nothing team
- Mind Canyon, an improvised comedy podcast devised by Charlie Kemp and Steve Dawson
- Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster
Mind Canyon is also up for the creativity award.
Nominees for the Spotlight award for ‘podcasts with sizeable audiences bringing the medium into the mainstream’, include Elis James and John Robins’s Radio 5 Live podcast, My Dad Wrote A Porno and The Guilty Feminist with Deborah Frances White.
James is also up for best Welsh language podcast for Dwy Iaith, Un Ymennydd – Two Languages, One Brain – in which he explores the links between language and culture.
Comedians nominated in other categories include the Rob Auton Daily Podcast, which is up for best daily podcast against such heavyweights as Beyond Today, the spin-off from Radio 4’s flagship news programme, and Today in Focus form The Guardian.
Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast and No Such Thing As A Fish are both up for moment of the year – although what that moment is has not been cited – while Shagged Married Annoyed with Chris and Rosie Ramsey has been shortlisted for best new podcast.
Rule Of Three, in which writers Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris talk to others who make comedy about something funny that they love, has been nominated for best arts and culture podcast.
Nobody Panic with comedians Stevie Martin and Tessa Coates has been shortlisted for best live podcast, and Rosie Wilby’s Breakup Monologues is in the running for best sex and relationship podcast.
Ellie Taylor’s Heart FM podcast with Anna Whitehouse, Ellie and Anna Have Issues, is up for best radio podcast alongside Jon Holmes’s experimental Radio 4 comedy, The Skewer, which is also in the running for the creativity award
The winners will be revealed on July 11.
