Comic and medic offers a guide to the human body

Medic-turned-comic-turned-bestselling author Adam Kay is writing a children's book.

Kay's Anatomy will be aimed at readers aged 8 to 12 and promises ‘an organ-by-organ tour of the human body’.

Fellow comedian Henry Paker will be illustrating it.

According to publishers Puffin it will offer a guide to the ‘strange, surprising and sickening world of how our bodies work and answering all the big questions like ‘are bogies safe to eat?’ and ‘how much of your life will you spend on the toilet?’"

Kays AnatomyKay – whose NHS memoirs This is Going to Hurt have sold more than two million copies – said: ‘I'm utterly fascinated with the human body and the multifarious ways in which it malfunctions—and I can't wait to share what I know with young readers. Which presumably involves not using the word "multifarious". ‘

He added of the publisher’s editorial director Holly Harris: ‘The enthusiasm from Holly and the whole team at Puffin was infectious, and I'm looking forward to tarnishing their reputation.’

Kay's Anatomy is due out on October 15 and can be preordered here.
