The Kids In The Hall make a TV comeback
Cult Canadian sketch troupe The Kids In The Hall are reuniting for a new eight-part series on Amazon Prime.
The team of Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson originally formed in Toronto in 1984 and made five TV series between 1988 and 1994, airing on CBC in Canada HBO and CBS in the States.
The new series will revive their recurring characters and introduce some new ones, and will be executive produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, the man who first brought the gang to TV.
He said: ‘Even after 30 years, The Kids In The Hall has retained its brilliance and originality. We are happy to be bringing back all of the original Kids for the new series.’
James Farrell, vice-president of international originals for Amazon Studios, added: ‘The Kids In The Hall is an iconic show with a deep-rooted fan base.’
Known for surreal and politically incorrect material, some of their memorable characters include effeminate, gay socialite Buddy Cole, the sexually aggressive hybrid Chicken Lady, Headcrusher and the insane Sizzler Sisters.
After the news of their comeback broke, Foley tweeted: 'Well no way out of it now! 'In fact, we are already busy writing our uniquely horrible brand of sketch comedy. Back with my old a cappella group!’
The troupe previously reunited for a narrative comedy series called Death Comes To Town, inspired by The League Of Gentleman, in 2010.
Here is our review of a revival show the troupe performed live at the 2007 Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal.
