Booker-winning novel about stand-up could become a movie

Studio options A Horse Walks Into A Bar

The Booker-winning novel about a stand-up comedian, A Horse Walks Into A Bar, could be turned into a movie.

Village Roadshow Pictures has optioned David Grossman’s  2017 book which reveals the comic’s chilling past over the course of a single gig.

Originally written in Hebrew, the book is narrated by a retired district court judge who is invited  by local comedian Dovaleh Greenstein,  to attend his show in a bar in the Israeli coastal town of Netanya. The judge and the comedian, who trades on divisive and offensive jokes, knew each other as boys, but have had no contact for over 40 years.

The English version won the 2017 Man Booker International Prize, with Grossman and translator Jessica Cohen sharing the £50,000.
