Jim Jefferies to be named stand-up of the year
Jim Jefferies is to be named stand-up comedian of the year at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival later this month.
Jimmy Carr will hand out the accolade to Jefferies –host of his own Comedy Central show – at the annual industry shindig.
Elsewhere in the festival, Jefferies is hosing two of the high-profile galas showcasing the best of the visiting comedians, including Nish Kumar, Jeff Ross, Rhys Nicholson and Brian Posehn.
At the awards ceremony, to be held on Friday July 26, Kevin Hart will win The Generation Award, previously awarded to Kim Carrey and Judd Apatow.
Trevor Noah will present Patriot Act’s Hasan Minhaj with the gong for breakout comedy star of the year, while Amanda Seales – who debuted her first HBO special I Be Knowin’ earlier this year – takes the rising star award.
Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett will win the comedy writers of the year accolade for their Netflix series Big Mouth. They were already scheduled to present a session about their show in the ComedyPro strand of the festival.
The awards will again be hosted by stand-up Alonzo Bodden.
