Comics raise £2,000 for ailing colleague
Fellow comics have rallied to the aid of stand-up Phil Jerrod after he announced he needed to have a kidney removed
Within six hours today his colleagues raised more than £2,000 to help him out while he is unable to work.
Jerrod has cancelled his upcoming Edinburgh Fringe run – which would have been his fourth visit to the festival – after being told it will take three months to recover from the operation.
Mock The Week regular Angela Barnes set up a crowdfunding page on GoFundMe today, which has already attracted 65 donations towards its £5,000 target.
She wrote: ‘As self employed comedians, we know that we don't have such luxuries as sick pay etc. And cancelling an Edinburgh run and three months worth of work is a big ol' deal.
‘I really don't want Phil and Beck (his lovely wife) to be worrying about making ends meet while they should be concentrating on Phil getting back to full fitness. And I know that the comedy community is a strong one that always comes together when the chips are down.
‘So if you can, I'd really appreciate it if you could make a little donation to the fund. Every little bit helps.
‘In this game most of us are living month to month - it's great if we can support each other when this sort of curveball comes along.’
