'Dad's Army vs Skynet'
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has a cab-based radio sitcom from comedian Colin Chadwick.
The four-part series, All’s Fare, is written by and stars the London-based stand-up as a small town taxi driver, leading his colleagues in the battle against threats to the industry such as Uber, driverless cars and ‘worst of all, a terrible lack of appreciation’.
Chadwick says inspiration for the series came from reimagining Dad’s Army set in the Terminator universe. In All’s Fare local taxi drivers lead the charge against technology’s threat to their way of life.
The series will be recorded in Galway this summer and will be broadcast on Flirt FM, the country’s student and alternative station.
It will be produced by fellow comedian Conor O’Toole. Chadwick first pitched the idea to him while they were sharing a bed in an attempt to cut costs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017.
‘Conor has done some of his best work in bed, there’s his daughter and now this,’ Chadwick said.
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland is the nation’s TV and radio watchdog, but also funds independent productions to stimulate the broadcasting industry. It awarded €6,000 to make All’s Fare.
