Cooper siblings scoop writing gong

Siblings Daisy May and Charlie Cooper have won a Bafta for writing This Country.

The pair triumphed in the comedy writer category of the academy’s craft awards tonight.

Also nominated were  Peter Kay, Sian Gibson and Paul Coleman for Peter Kay’s Car Share, Stefan Golaszewski for Mum and the team behind Cunk on Britain.

Last year, Daisy May last year won the Bafta for best female comedy performance and the show was named best comedy.

Also at the ceremony, Barbara Wilshire was named best director of a fictional programme for her work on the Inside No 9 live episode, Dead Line

And Akemnji Ndifornyen won the breakthrough talent award as a composer, producer and writer on BBC Three sketch series Famalam.

The event was hosted by Episodes star Stephen Mangan in London and comes ahead of the main awards next month.

The biggest winner on the night was A Very English Scandal, starring Hugh Grant, which scooped three behind-the-scenes awards.
