Second series for Lolly Adefope's US sitcom
Shrill, the US sitcom starring Lolly Adefope, has been renewed for a second series.
The show stars Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant as a woman called Annie who’s trying to start her career while juggling bad boyfriends, a sick parent and a perfectionist boss, while the world around her deems her not good enough because of her weight.
Adefope plays Fran, Annie's best friend and roommate.
Six episodes launched on Hulu to strong reviews last month, and now the streaming giant has announced that another eight episodes will be made for released next year.
The comedy is based on the book Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman by Lindy West.
Last month Bryant told of how gruelling it was to work on SNL and Shrill at the same time. ‘We were editing and doing all the music supervision and all that stuff while I was at SNL. So I would do that in the morning, then go to SNL and work all night. And I can't sustain that forever. I can't do it,’ she told the Hollywood Reporter.
Adefope was most recently seen on This Time with Alan Partridge on BBC One and appears in Ghosts on the same channel from tonight.
