Mum heads RTS award winners
Mum and Inside No. 9 were big winners at the Royal Television Society Awards tonight.
Mum’s creator Stefan Golaszewski won the award for comedy writer and star Lesley Manville that for female comedy performance. Judges praised her starring role as setting ‘a new benchmark for excellence In this genre".
Meanwhile, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith won the male comedy performance gong for their ‘astonishing and committed’ performances for Inside No. 9.
Derry Girls took home the award for scripted comedy, with the RTS judges describing it as ‘skilful, special and truthful, combining super-smart writing with outstanding acting’.
The Last Leg won the entertainment programme category for being ‘bold and totally brilliant, entertaining its audience with seemingly endless creative inventiveness’.
Big Narstie and Mo Gilligan won the entertainment performance award for what was described as ‘a complete breath of fresh air, refreshingly raw, authentic and very entertaining. ‘
Gilligan had also been nominated for the breakthrough award from across the genres, but that went to Nabhaan Rizwan for the drama Informer.
And Romesh Ranganathan took home the award for best presenter for The Misadventures of Romesh Ranganthan after bringing ‘genuine originality to every scene’.
