Brighton gets a new comedy festival
The producers of the Bristol Comedy Garden and Greenwich Comedy Festival are opening a new festival in Brighton.
Alan Davies, Adam Hills, Sara Pascoe and Sean Lock will be among the comics coming to the five-day festival this June.
A giant marquee will be erected in Preston Park for the Brighton Comedy Garden, which will run from June 19 to 23.
The line-up also includes David O’Doherty, Tom Allen, Rachel Parris, Ed Byrne, Stephen K Amos and Henning Wehn, Bridget Christie, Tim Key, Rose Matafeo, Phil Wang and Rosie Jones.
It is being staged by siblings Will Briggs and Cass Randolph – the stepchildren of infamous promoter, comedian and exhibitionist Malcolm Hardee.
In a statement, they said; ‘We’ve always had Brighton in mind as a dream location for what we do and now, with our events in Greenwich and Bristol hitting their stride, we feel it’s the right time to bring Brighton a piece of the action.
‘Brighton is famous for its vibrant arts and festivals scene, and we hope to add even more quality to that. Perhaps now more than ever it’s good to be reminded of the absurdity and humour in life and our acts have some of the most brilliantly absurd minds in the country.’
Tickets are available here.
Brighton previously had its own comedy festival, which ran for 14 years until 2015 and was overseen by William Burdett-Coutts, director of Assembly at the Edinburgh Fringe.
