Including Sarah Kendall and Mackenzie Crook

Sarah Kendall, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mackenzie Crook have all bee honoured at tonight Writers’ Guild of Great Britain awards.

Crook was honoured for best sitcom for his BBC Four comedy Detectorists, which came to an end in December 2017.

Fleabag writer Waller-Bridge picked up the award for best long-form TV drama for the hit thriller Killing Eve

And Kendall took home the award for best radio comedy for the second year in a row, for the second volume of her Australian Trilogy monologues.  

The best online comedy went to Hannah George and Tasha Dhanraj for their BBC Three sketch Where Are You From? The Game.

Getting On and The Thick Of It actor Joanna Scanlan hosted the ceremony, which was attended by guests including Jessica Hynes, Armando Iannucci, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and David Schneider.

Tributes were paid to comedy writers Denis Norden  and Ray Galton, plus other members who died in the last year.

Scanlan said: ‘There have been so many amazing pieces of work across all disciplines and it is thrilling to see new stories from writers established or brand new being celebrated. 

‘It is especially encouraging to see women writers scooping a number of the awards for their brilliant and entertaining work, highlighting that it’s about time that there is more equality for women writers.’
