Golden Globes victory for The Kominsky Method
Netflix comedy The Kominsky Method has won two Golden Globe awards.
The show was named best comedy TV series while star Michael Douglas won best performance by an actor in the same category for his role as Sandy Kominsky, a once successful actor who now works as a revered acting coach in Hollywood.
Douglas thanked his 102-year-old father Kirk and series co-creator Chuck Lorre in his speech, saying: ‘Chuck thinks getting old is funny.’
The series also stars Alan Arkin, Sarah Baker, and Nancy Travis,
Rachel Brosnahan was named best actress in a TV comedy for her starring performance in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
She thanked the ‘incredible village’ it takes to produce the show, adding: ‘Our village is a matriarchy," Brosnahan said.
Meenwhile Olivia Colman won best actress musical or comedy movie for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite and Christian Bale won the equivalent actor award for Vice. Green Book took the Golden Globe for best movie in this category.
In other categories, Ben Whishaw won best actor in a TV drama for his performance as Norman Scott, in a A Very English Scandal. And Sandra Oh, who is also hosting the ceremony, won for her performance in Killing Eve, becoming the first Asian woman to host a major awards show and to win multiple Globes.
