Fleabag gets a French remake
Fleabag is to be remade in French, after a Paris-based production house bought the rights.
Filming of the new version is set to start in the French capital in January, trade paper Variety reports.
The half-hour series is being adapted by Jeanne Herry, an actress turned director, who will also direct the six half-hour episodes.
Dominique Jubin, of production house Studiocanal, told Variety: ‘The series will start as a transgressive comedy and will evolve into a subtle, bittersweet portrayal of a modern young woman.’
She added that the new version would have a French sensibilities, but maintain the ‘modernity, feminine perspective, offbeat humour and spirit’ of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s original.
Studiocanal is making the show with Banijay Studios France, the company that bought the rights.
