E4 acquires The Good Place

Acclaimed US comedy comes to the UK next month

Channel 4 has brought the rights to hit American comedy The Good Place.

The show, currently only available in the UK to Netflix subscribers, will be starting on E4 on December 13 at 9pm.

It stars Kristen Bell as Eleanor Shellstrop, a woman who wakes up in a heavenly afterlife but realises she must be there by mistake as she lived a terrible life on Earth – a fact she tries to disguise by the immortal architect Michael, played by Ted Danson, who is in charge of her neighbourhood.

The series has been critically acclaimed for its originality and plot twists, with The i calling it ‘the best sitcom in a decade’, and The Guardian’s Lucy Mangan writing: ‘I am in awe even as I bark with laughter.’

Former T4 presenter Jameela Jamil plays wealthy socialite, Tahani Al-Jamil;  William Jackson Harper is Eleanor’s moral mentor Chiti;  Manny Jacinto is the dim-witted Jason; and D’Arcy Carden is an all-knowing virtual assistant, Janet.

The Good Place was created by Michael Shur, who helped adapt The Office for US audiences and created ; Parks and Recreation

A 13-episode third season is currently airing on NBC in the States, with episodes available on Netflix soon after broadcast.
