Kurupt FM gets an American accent
People Just Do Nothing is being remade for the American market.
Amazon has ordered a pilot episode of the adaptation, with the action moved from Brentford in West London to North Las Vegas – a similarly modest suburb close to the bright lights and glamour of the big city.
Mehar Sethi, who has previously worked on shows including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and BoJack Horseman, is the writer and executive producer on the remake, Hollywood trade paper Variety reports.
The creators and stars of the original BBC Three series – Hugo Chegwin, Steve Stamp, Asim Chaudhry and Allan Mustafa – are among the executive producers on the new version alongside Ash Atalla, from UK production house Roughcut TV, which is making the show with Amazon Studios.
Chris Storer, who has helmed the Netflix stand-up series The Comedy Line-Up and Bo Burnham’s live specials, will direct, and also has his name on the executive producer credits.
The British version of People Just Do Nothing, charting the ups and downs of the pirate radio DJs behind Kurupt FM, will come to an end with its fifth season later this year.
It launched in 2014, based on sketches the creators had uploaded online under the name Wasteman TV.
