New exhibition honours Victoria Wood

Personal memorabilia goes on display

Some of Victoria Wood’s personal mementoes are going on display in her hometown of Bury from tomorrow.

Original scripts, song sheets, photos, props and costumes – including the yellow beret worn by her character Kimberley’s friend – will be exhibited at the Art Museum & Sculpture Centre for the next year.

Put together with the aid of her literary estate, the collection features scripts from shows such as Wood And Walters, As Seen On TV, An Audience With…, Pat and Margaret, Acorn Antiques: The Musical and  Housewife 49 – as well as handwritten notes for the lyrics to Fashion, the song that won her New Faces in 1974.

There is also memorabilia from Bury Grammar School, where she was a pupil in the 1960s. The collection includes a school magazine featuring a story by Victoria entitled Pardon?, exam certificates and school reports.

The exhibition is free and opens at 2pm tomorrow.
