BBC recommissions Guz Khan sitcom

BBC Three has ordered a second series of the Guz Khan comedy Man Like Mobeen

Four 22-minute episodes have been commissioned, to be filmed Birmingham later this year.

In it,  Khan plays a 29-year-old Muslim 'who has a job, doesn't know any terrorists, is pretty excellent when it comes to social skills and… maybe, just maybe, dealt drugs for a little bit.'

Man Like Mobeen, written and created by Guz Khan and Andy Milligan, and is described as ‘offering a rarely seen insight into working-class life as an ethnic minority’

Khan said: ‘I always knew we could make something that would make working class people laugh and be proud of who we are. It just so happens that Cuthbert from Monmouth and a couple of UKIP supporters liked it as well. Who’d have thought hey?"

Shane Allen, the BBC’s controller of comedy commissioning, added that the commission was ‘a welcome return for our mischievous Muslim misfits in this subversive sitcom which nimbly walks the line of challenging lazy stereotypes through its sharp writing and a knockout ensemble cast of richly drawn characters’.

The first four-episode series aired in December, after a 2016 pilot and co-starred Tez Ilyas, Tolulope Ogunmefun and Duaa Karim.
