Alex Edelman scoops a Herald Angel award
American comic Alex Edelman has scooped a Herald Angel Award for his third Edinburgh Fringe show.
Just For Us, which was nominated for the Barry Award at the Melbourne Comedy Festival earlier this year, revolves around the Jewish comic’s encounter with a group of anti-Semites in New York.
The awards are handed out by the Glasgow Herald each week, and the newspaper had called the show ‘a confident, carefully-crafted and brilliantly delivered set. If this was music it would definitely be jazz. Rhythmic and hip, you're never sure where it's taking you but you know you'll like it.’
Anthony Alderson, director of The Pleasance, where the show is being performed, added: ‘This fantastic young comedian is at the top of his game and we couldn’t be happier that The Herald have recognised him in this exciting way.’
Edelman’s debut, Millennial, won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for best newcomer in 2014. The follow-up, Everything Handed to You was filmed for a Live From The BBC special, which is currently available on Netflix.
Last week Sarah Keyworth won a Herald Angel for her debut show, Dark Horse, also at the Pleasance, about discovering her own sexuality and gender identity.
