Netflix to release 47 comedy specials on one day
Netflix has announced a major new project featuring half-hour specials from 47 comedians from around the world.
Nish Kumar, Joel Dommett, Mae Martin and Ellie Taylor will be representing the UK in the series which has yet to be titled. Martin is Canadian, but based in the UK.
All the specials will be released at once, sometime next year, in what’s being described as a ‘groundbreaking event series’.
Some of the sets will be recorded at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal later this month, with other filming taking place in São Paulo, Mexico City, Mumbai, Berlin and Amsterdam.
The series will feature seven languages: French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Dutch, German and English.
Lisa Nishimura, the Netflix vice-president responsible for comedy, said: ‘Few things are better than discovering a new comedian you love. With this event, we’re creating a true comedy festival experience for our members where they can scour the globe from home to find some of the freshest voices in comedy.’
