Susan Calman to get an honorary doctorate
Susan Calman is to receive an honorary doctorate from the Glasgow University – where her father is Chancellor.
The comic is one of 23 people receiving honorary degrees this summer and is being recognised for her work as a broadcaster and comedian, but also for highlighting mental health issues and LGBT rights.
She has used the public platform she received from being on Strictly Come Dancing to speak about her depression and suicidal thoughts, which she has also covered in her book Cheer Up Love.
Calman studied law at the university, before embarking on her pre-comedy career in corporate law.
Her father, Sir Kenneth Calman, the former chief medical officer of both Scotland and then England and Wales has been Chancellor of the university since 2006.
Other people being honoured by the university include broadcaster Andrew Neil and Reverend Dr Angus Morrison, the former Moderator of the Church of Scotland.
