Les Dennis to play a washed-up comic
In a new play alongside Inbetweener Blake Harriso
Les Dennis is to star in a new play about a washed-up comedy star.
In the piece entitled End Of The Pier, the former Family Fortunes host plays a forgotten entertainer called Bobby who is now ‘resigned to a life of solitude and second-rate panto performances’.
He starts alongside Blake Harrison – best known as Neil in The Inbetweeners – who plays the nation’s current favourite comedian, a man who arrives at Bobby’s door desperately seeking help to save his career.
It is not the first time Dennis has played a comic on his uppers, having portrayed working-men’s club comedian, Jigsy, at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2012. He also mocked his public image in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s Extras.
End Of The Pier opens at the Park Theatre in Finsbury Park, North London on July 11, where it is scheduled to run for a month. It has been written by Danny Robins, who wrote the radio comedies Rudy’s Rare Records, The Cold Swedish Winter and The Museum of Everything, and used to perform on the circuit as DJ Danny.
It co-stars Nitin Ganatra, who plays Masood Ahmed in EastEnders, and Tala Gouveia. Tickets are available here.
