Theatre award for Ross Noble
Ross Noble has picked up a theatre award for playing Igor in the Mel Brooks musical Young Frankenstein.
The comic was named best supporting actor in a musical in the What’s On Stage awards for the role, so memorably played by Marty Feldman in the 1974 movie.
He sent an acceptance speech from New Zealand, where he is currently on tour.
Noble won plaudits for the role, which he left earlier this month. The Guardian said he was ‘both funny and touching’, with the Telegraph enthusing that the comedian ‘is a revelation, courting physical injury by continually contorting himself inside his black cape, his moon-face combining low-level cunning with lobotomised gormlessness.’
Other winners included Broadchurch stars Olivia Colman and David Tennant, winning lead acting prizes for Mosquitoes and Don Juan In Soho respectively.
Stage star Cory English has now taken over the role of Igor.
The awards were announced at a ceremony co-hosted by Vikki Stone.
