ITV orders impersonation panel show after succesful pilot

ITV has commissioned a new comedy panel show based on impressions

Rory Bremner and Debra Stephenson are the team captains on The Imitation Game – which will be hosted by Alexander Armstrong and feature a mix of well-known and up-and-coming impressionists.

Rounds will require them to provide new voiceovers for old news footage, or sing one performer’s songs in the style of another.

Seven 45-minute episodes have been commissioned followed the success of a pilot earlier this year which also featured Jess Robinson and Luke Kempner.

Kenton Allen, the chief executive of programme-makers Big Talk, told trade website Broadcast that the show was inspired by the popularity of impressionists on Britain’s Got Talent.

His company is producing the show with Random Entertainment, the company run by former Goodie Graeme Garden and Jon Naismith, the producer of Radio 4’s I’m Sorry, I Haven’t A Clue –  which also features a round that puts one song to the tune of anothe.
